With SC in Europe for a few weeks there is an eerie silence in the studio. So more than ever music has become my friend. Here are the top 15 albums on rotation
at The Measure.
BATTLES - GLOSS DROP
Awesome album to kick off the day. Not as crazy as their last record with the exception of Wall Street and Rolls Bayce. Stand out tracks for me are Africastle and Futura.
FOUR TET - FABRICLIVE 59
This one is fresh off the shelf. It starts with an almost UKG sound and moves into some really nice electro towards the end. Keiran shows great track selection throwing in some rare tunes from Persian and KH as well as a few classics from the man himself like Pyramid. Best Fabric ever followed closely by Fabric 17 - Akufen.
JAMES BLAKE - JAMES BLAKE
What more can i say about this album that hasn't been said. Bit of a favourite with...well just about everyone. Stand out tracks for me are I Never Learnt To Share and Limit To Your Love.
MOUNT KIMBIE - CROOKS & LOVERS
When SC is away, the electro will play! If you like James Blake you should give Mount Kimbie a listen.
GILL SCOTT-HERON & JAMIE XX - WE'RE NEW HERE
SC got me onto this record and I think that it is a contender for my album of the year. Great collaboration between the late Gill Scott-Heron and Jamie XX from the XX. Jamie remixes 14 tracks from Scott-Herons album 'I'm New Here'.
PANDA BEAR - TOMBOY
Amazing record. Its the forth record of Noah Lennox who is also a member of Animal Collective. A real improvement on Person Pitch which i think lacked something.
RADICAL FACE - GHOST
All the albums so far have been from 2011. This one goes back to 2007 however this record is new to me. Radical face aka Ben Cooper is releasing his second album The Family Tree: The Roots early October.
SBTRKT - SBTRKT
This record is different. What could be described as a dub-step sound, it borders at times on pop. This one gets a little extra volume when it comes on.
HANDSOME FURS - SOUND KAPITAL
Great follow up to Face Control. Stand out track for me are Serve the People and Cheap Music.
THE NATIONAL - HIGH VIOLET
There is not a day that goes by in the studio that doesn't include a least 1 National track. There are no stand out on this album they are all awesome.
THE KILLS - BLOOD PRESSURES
From the get-go this record is strong. Future Starts Now is probably the best track on the album for me. Other stand out tracks are Baby Says and DNA. This album got a bad wrap from the critics but i think it is rad.
ARCTIC MONKEYS - SUCK IT AND SEE
My itunes shuffle mode has something against these guys and hardly ever plays them. Really like this guys song writing. I never listen to lyrics and apart from Paul Kelly, Alex Turners words are the only ones I really ever pay attention to.
FLEET FOXES - HELPLESSNESS BLUES
A late addition to my list, this record is my late afternoon listen. I prefer it to their first record. Fleet Foxes...on the up&up.
BON IVER - BON IVER
Another afternoon record. Holocene and Towers would have to be my stand out tracks.
THE STROKES - ANGLES
It has been a while between drinks for these guys. However what they served up is a very polished record. Well worth a listen.
